SSD Students: Taking an Exam in the Test Center

Instructors must be notified of testing accommodations by sending them a Faculty Notification Letter (FNL) from within your student portal. Once they are notified, an Alternative Testing Agreement must be filled out before students can use the Test Center. Instructors can find information on how to fill this out within the FNL. The agreement is a way for instructors to specify exam materials, exam length, and parameters for the semester. If student and instructors are in agreement that exams or quizzes will be taken at the Test Center and the Alternative Testing Agreement has been filled out, students can schedule in the Test Center by using the Student Portal.

Below are instructions for scheduling your exams. If your instructor or their department is proctoring your exams, you don’t need to use the software for scheduling.

  1. Log in to the Student Portal
  2. On the left side menu under My Accommodations, select Alternative Testing
  3. From the Select Course dropdown menu, select the course you wish to schedule an exam for. Note: if the course is not in the dropdown menu, the Instructor has not filled out the Alternative Testing Agreement for that course. That must be filled out before scheduling an exam.
  4. Select Schedule an Exam
  5. Select the Available Exam Date from the dropdown menu. The Instructor of the course will specify when certain exams or quizzes can be scheduled. Choose the appropriate date and exam type.
  6. Once a date is chosen from the dropdown menu prior, the date and time will auto populate.
  7. In order to make sure you get the appropriate testing accommodation on the exam, select the accommodations you wish to use. Once you select extra time if that is available to you, the exam time length will adjust and should reflect how much time is allowed.
  8. Read through the Terms and Conditions and select that you have read and are in agreement.
  9. Select Add Exam Request to submit the request for review.
  10. You and your Instructor will receive an email notification about the request.  If you do not receive an email confirming the request, it may need to be done again.
  11. Testing Center staff or Instructors will look over the details and you’ll receive a final confirmation email outlining the next steps.

Note: Please submit your requests at least two business days in advance (Monday- Friday are business days for the Testing Center). If you are requesting a time outside of those days, your request may not be approved.

What to expect on the day of your exam in the Test Center:

  1. Please arrive at least five minutes prior to the start of your exam.
  2. Bring your Blugold ID (physical or electronic versions are accepted) to show to the staff at check in.
  3. Staff will get your exam and go over allowed materials.
  4. Personal belongings and phones will need to be placed in designated areas, away from the testing desks.
  5. You will not need any materials unless your professor has provided special instructions to use during the exam (e.g. a calculator).

Faculty: How to use the Test Center for Student Alternative Testing Accommodations

Instructors must be notified of testing accommodations by a Faculty Notification Letter (FNL). Once this has been received, an Alternative Testing Agreement must be filled out in the Faculty Portal before students can use the Test Center. Instructors can find information on how to fill this out within the FNL. The agreement is a way for instructors to specify exam materials, exam length, and parameters for the semester exams and quizzes. If student and instructors are in agreement that exams or quizzes will be taken at the Test Center and the Alternative Testing Agreement has been filled out, students can schedule exams in the Test Center by using the Student Portal.

Note: If you or your department plan on proctoring the exams, please still complete the agreement so that students and SSD staff are aware. There is an option to specify proctoring your own exams on the agreement.
